March 2005

Migdal JCC Participating in the International Youth Grand-Prix of Jewish Arts “Young People against Wars and Terrorism” — Kiev — New-York — Jerusalem The festival that took place in Kiev (March 20) in a famous concert hall —“Ukraine” Palace gathered the best creative groups of Ukraine.

The Migdal?s delegation was among the biggest ones and consisted of ?Keshet? children?s dance group, teens? dance group, students? dance group, vocal group and a soloist Anna Verkhovskaya. The jury of the festival marked high professionalism and good training of those groups participating in the second concert. The winners of the concert will be recommended for further participation in the festival?s events in New-York and Jerusalem (Odessa Jewish community is looking forward to results).

Purim Odessa Migdal JCC celebrated Purim, as always, in the circle of its big family: Mazel Tov, Beitenu center and many other groups? participants. For two days and nights, about 200 participants and spectators including the youngest ones ? babies and toddlers ? gathered in the JCC. Mazal Tov parents were given an opportunity to present their Purimshpiel, which they prepared together with the kids in the form of a musical performance filled with Odessa charm and humor. The Purimshpiel of teenagers was designed in a vanguard style. Their unique idea to hold a contest with spectators was successfully run, though being a veteran?s experience. Each scenario was attractive as it had been written by the students, parents and others, while still depicting the same, known to everyone, characters of Aman, Esther and Mordechai.
